Extension won't connect

If the WorkingVPN extension shows a red status indicator, says the connection failed, or websites aren’t loading after you connect, work through these steps in order. Most connection problems are fixed by one of the first three.

Step 1: Confirm your regular internet works

Before blaming the VPN, make sure your baseline connection is fine.

  1. Disconnect WorkingVPN.
  2. Visit a site like https://example.com.
  3. If that also fails, the problem is your internet, not WorkingVPN. Restart your router or switch Wi-Fi networks and try again before continuing.

Step 2: Try a different location

Individual servers can be temporarily overloaded or unreachable.

  1. Open the WorkingVPN popup.
  2. Pick a different country from the location list.
  3. Click Connect.

If the new location works, the first one was the problem. You can switch back later once it recovers.

Step 3: Check for conflicting extensions

Other VPN or proxy extensions compete with WorkingVPN for control of your browser’s proxy settings. Only one extension can hold them at a time, which makes this by far the most common cause of “nothing works” after installing WorkingVPN.

WorkingVPN checks for this on its own. If it finds another extension controlling your proxy settings, the popup shows an amber Extension conflict detected banner with a Details button that names the extension and explains what to do.

Whether or not you see that banner:

  1. Disable any other VPN, proxy, or privacy extension you have installed.
  2. Reload your browser tab.
  3. Try connecting again.

Step 4: Disable and re-enable the extension

Sometimes the extension’s internal state gets stuck. Toggling it clears that.

Chrome / Edge:

  1. Go to chrome://extensions/ (or edge://extensions/).
  2. Find WorkingVPN and toggle it off, then back on.
  3. Reload your tab.

Firefox:

  1. Go to about:addons.
  2. Find WorkingVPN, click the three dots, then Disable.
  3. Click Enable again.
  4. Reload your tab.

Step 5: Read what the extension is telling you

After two failed connection attempts in a row, or if it cannot reach our servers at all, the popup shows a blue Having trouble connecting? banner. That banner is a signal in itself: it means the failures are happening before your traffic reaches us, which usually points at the network you’re on rather than at the extension.

If you see it, skip ahead to the network-specific guides at the bottom of this page.

Step 6: Clear your browser cache

Cached DNS results can mask a VPN connection. After you connect, sites may still appear to come from your real location because the browser is reusing stale DNS entries.

  1. Clear your browser’s cache and cookies, or at least those for the affected site.
  2. Try again.

Step 7: Reinstall

As a last resort, remove WorkingVPN and install it fresh. Your settings reload automatically when you sign in:

Still stuck?

If none of that works, the problem may be your network rather than the extension:

If none of those apply, email [email protected] with the exact error message, your browser and version, and the country you were trying to connect to.
